Hamburger SV kept in touch with the top spots in the 2nd Bundesliga with a goal-fest. The 5-0 (2-0) win against newly promoted Jahn Regensburg saw the Hanseatics climb to fourth place in the table.
In the sold-out Volkspark Stadium with 53,779 spectators, the northern club benefited above all from its squad depth. Ransford Königsdörffer (1st minute) and Robert Glatzel (14th) secured the early lead. Substitutes Jean-Luc Dompé (76th/90th+3) and Davie Selke (89th) sweetened the perfect HSV afternoon. The harmless guests from Bavaria offered little resistance.
Baumgart praises squad depth
Coach Steffen Baumgart praised the depth of the squad, which has been discussed a lot recently. The club was unable to get rid of some players in the summer transfer window. “Bringing in guys like that who are willing to put themselves at the service of the team was a big deal today, I think,” said the coach. Baumgart had “nothing much to complain about, apart from what I’ll see in the video.”
Selke also scored his first second division goal for HSV. “If you can keep going like that and have that quality when the opponent is perhaps already tired, then that’s outstanding,” said captain Sebastian Schonlau. “We all have to put in the effort. Otherwise you won’t play.”
The Hanseatics made an extremely solid impression. Coach Baumgart’s players solved the few tricky situations with clever passing combinations. The defense defended compactly. However, the guests hardly caused the Hanseatics any problems defensively.
Königsdörffer with quick opening goal
The confetti from the north curve, which had been shot into the air by the fans before the start of the game, was still whirling through the arena when the 1.82 meter tall Königsdörffer headed the ball to make it 1-0.
The HSV fans were briefly frightened. The guests had the first chance to score what seemed to be the equalizer. But the own goal by HSV defender Dennis Hadzikadunic was not counted because Dominik Kother was offside.

The home team increased their lead after a great combination of passes from their own half. Top scorer Robert Glatzel pushed a cross from the strong young player Fabio Baldé into the Bayern goal. Baldé had already set up the first goal. It was only the 19-year-old’s fifth second division appearance.
Before the match, HSV received a prominent visitor. Former boxing world champion Wladimir Klitschko was a guest at the Volkspark Stadium. His brother Vitali is the mayor of Kiev in the Ukraine, which has been affected by the Russian war of aggression. According to the club, Wladimir thanked everyone for the “support of his country” and the sporting activation of the Hamburg-Kiev city pact.

The second half began without any significant resistance from the visitors. It was only after 70 minutes that Bayern had two good chances. But on the other side, substitute Dompé and Selke left no doubt that HSV deserved the win.
