Leon Goretzka and Leroy Sané were also present at the training session. The 29-year-old Goretzka can hope to be part of the squad again on Tuesday (9 p.m./DAZN) in the Allianz Arena after defender Sacha Boey was again injured (torn meniscus). He was not enough to make the 20-man squad for the 6-1 win against Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga at the weekend.

National player Sané is still waiting for his comeback after his groin operation following the European Championships at home in the summer. The 28-year-old was part of the team for the first time in Kiel, but did not play. “We want to start with a win,” said Joshua Kimmich at the start of the reformed Champions League.
In the preliminary round, the 36 participants no longer play in eight groups, but in a league system. Each club plays eight games against eight different opponents. Only the top eight in the table qualify directly for the round of 16.
