Dinamo Zagreb coach Sergej Jakirovic has discovered “unfortunately too few weaknesses” in the Munich team when analyzing FC Bayern. The 47-year-old admitted this with a mischievous smile ahead of the big sporting challenge for the Croatian football serial champions on Tuesday (9 p.m./DAZN) in the Allianz Arena.
“We know how powerful Bayern is. They are a huge opponent with a lot of quality,” said Jakirovic in the press conference on the eve of the start of the Champions League. Nevertheless, the coach of the clear underdog spoke of a “wonderful game” and stressed that “our motivation does not end with qualification for the Champions League.” His team must not hide, must be brave when in possession of the ball and strike on the counterattack.
“Focus” on Kane
The guests will be particularly focused on Bayern striker Harry Kane, who recently scored three times in the Bundesliga in Munich’s 6-1 win over Kiel. “He has complete freedom in Bayern’s game. We have to focus on him a lot, in the spaces between the goals and especially in the penalty area,” said Jakirovic.
When asked about Dinamo’s 5-0 defeat in Munich nine years ago in the Champions League group stage, the coach said: “I saw the game back then. We will try to make it difficult for Bayern this time.”
