Country singer gives cancer update: ‘I’m fighting my hardest’

DALLAS, Texas — Country musician Joshua Ray Walker shared an update with fans after announcing his cancer diagnosis on social media last week.

Walker, of Texas, was diagnosed with colon cancer in January and posted a health update to his Instagram last week saying the cancer has spread to his lungs and he launched a GoFundMe as he continues treatment.

He shared another post on Instagram thanking his followers for the support.

“I just am blown away by the reaction to my post,” the singer, sporting a bald head from his treatments, said in a video posted to his Instagram page.

As of Monday afternoon, more than $100,000 had been donated to Walker’s GoFundMe. The goal is $300,000.

“I’m just so thankful for y’all. I don’t have the words, clearly, and I just thank you. I’m trying my best. I’m fighting my hardest. I want to continue … be a part of this music scene, and a part of everyone’s lives,” he said.

Before starting chemotherapy, Walker said he was told he had a 90% chance of having clear tests after receiving treatment and was not prepared to learn the cancer had spread to his lungs.

“It’s just been a constant flow of well-wishes and … from all over the place. Childhood friends to acquaintances, everything in between, professional, personal, family, whatever. It has been incredible. I feel very loved, and I’m just so grateful for you all.”
