WASHINGTON, SEPT 16 – The United States (US) media named Ryan Wesley Routh, who had been interviewed AFP in Kyiv in 2022 where he supported the war effort there, as a suspect in the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
US media reported that Routh, 58, was arrested after US Secret Service agents ‘opened fire on a shooter’ carrying an AK-47 near Trump’s golf course in Florida, where the former president was playing golf, yesterday.
The suspect had come out of the bush where he was hiding and fled in a black car before he was tracked down by authorities.
CNN and CBS reported that Routh is a self-employed developer of affordable housing in Hawaii, with a decades-long arrest record and frequent tweets about politics and current issues, including criticism of Trump, the Republican presidential candidate.
One of the issues supported by Routh is Ukraine’s struggle against the invasion launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin. – AFP
