The Ministry of Health found one positive case of mpox

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 17 – The Ministry of Health (MoH) detected a positive case of monkey pox or mpox variant clade II in Malaysia yesterday.

Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the case was detected out of 58 suspected mpox cases that had been referred to the Ministry of Health throughout this year.

He said the patient was a local man who started showing symptoms of fever, sore throat and cough on Sept 11 while the rash started appearing on Sept 12.

Dr Muhammad Radzi said the individual who was in isolation had no history of traveling abroad in the 21 days before the symptoms appeared and was now in a stable condition.

“All contacts of these patients are being identified and their health status will be monitored according to the current strict standard operating procedures (SOP),” he said in a statement today.

He said since July 26, 2023, there have been 10 mpox cases recorded in this country from the variant clade II only

According to Dr Muhammad Radzi, the mpox operation room which was activated on 16 August at the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CPRC) constantly monitors the mpox situation and coordinates various preparedness measures and relevant responses.

“In order to increase preparedness and enable the public to play a role by improving self-health control, the Ministry of Health continues to spread the word through various mass media and social media channels,” he said. – Named
