Starting today, Tuesday, the state of Berlin will take over part of the costs for the repair of private electrical appliancesAnyone who has their broken waffle iron or their faulty laptop repaired on account can get up to 50 percent of the costs and a maximum of 200 euros back via an online application.
If a repair is carried out in a repair café or repair initiative, the state will cover 100 percent of the cost of the spare part. The Senate wants to promote the sustainable use of electrical devices and help conserve resources.
“We need a new awareness of how to deal with defective devices,” said Environment Senator Ute Bonde (CDU) recently, according to a press release. “From now on, the first reaction to such a defect should no longer be to search online for a suitable replacement device that can be bought cheaply. The first thought should always be: Where can I get this repaired?”

Repairs that cost at least 75 euros including VAT are eligible for funding. For repairs in a repair café or repair initiative, the bill for the spare part must be at least 25 euros including VAT. The maximum funding is limited to 200 euros.
By the end of the year, 1.25 million euros will be available for the repair bonus, including project management costs. Given the strained budget situation, it is unclear whether the bonus will also be offered in 2025.
