Three foreign nationals were charged by the court

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 17 SEPT – Three individuals have been charged in two prosecution sessions carried out by the Immigration and National Registration Department (JIPK) under the Immigration Act, Chapter 17 and under the Passport Act, Chapter 146.

In the first prosecution session, Ting Hong Moi, a 42-year-old Malaysian woman, was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of $6,000 for an offense under Chapter 55(1)(b) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17 for conspiring to bring in people illegally illegal to this country. He will be sentenced to six months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

While the second individual, Li Shiang Tai, a 32-year-old Malaysian man, was fined $46,000 or sentenced to 17 months in prison if he failed to pay the fine for an offense under Chapter 3(1) of the Passport Act, Chapter 146 after failing to submit travel documents to the Immigration Officer who on duty upon arrival in this country.

The prosecution session was conducted by the Deputy Public Prosecutor, Hajah Rozaimah binti Haji Abd Rahman in front of the Magistrate Court Judge, Syaffina binti Shahif.

Meanwhile for the second prosecution session, a citizen of the Republic of the Philippines, Senen Villamar, 66 years old, was sentenced to five months in prison and a $1,000 fine in lieu of flogging after being found guilty of overstaying in the country after his immigration pass was canceled under Chapter 15(1) Immigration Act, Chapter 17.

He will be sentenced to six months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

Senen Villamar was arrested during JIPK Cabinet Operation 94/2024 which was carried out at Labu Temporary Immigration Control Post, Temburong on 20 August 2024 at 11:30 am which led to the prosecution session.

The prosecution session was conducted by the Deputy Public Prosecutor, Nurulatikah binti Haji Hussaini before the Magistrate Court Judge, Abdul ‘Azim bin Othman.
