BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, SEPT 18 – A man facing serious charges for allegedly assaulting a police officer and committing treason has been set for trial from 17 to 22 February 2025.
Prosecutor Abdul Musawwir Haji Mahli charged that Mohd Nazree bin Mohd Salleh, 43, intentionally caused injury to a 26-year-old police officer. The incident is said to have happened on August 17, when the defendant allegedly backed his vehicle, causing the officer to be pinned between the car door and the garage wall while the officer was conducting a legitimate investigation.
If convicted, Mohd Nazree could face a prison sentence of up to five years and caning for the charge under Section 332 of the Penal Code (Chapter 22).
In a separate charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code, the defendant was charged with causing damage to a vehicle on August 15. A person’s vehicle sustained $1,800 worth of damage after the defendant allegedly broke the vehicle’s brake light with his left elbow.
The charge can also carry a prison sentence of up to five years and not less than two lashes.
Mohd Nazree had previously denied both charges.
