Paris Metro becomes more expensive for many tourists

Tourists in Paris will have to prepare for more expensive tickets for the metro and local transport. The transport companies in the greater Paris area will be clearing up their fare jungle from the beginning of next year. Some tickets that are often used by tourists will be more expensive.

However, it is often significantly cheaper for residents of the suburbs. Lower ticket prices are intended to encourage them to switch from cars to public transport, as the president of the capital region ÃŽle-de-France, which is responsible for local transport, Valérie Pécresse, told the newspaper “Le Parisien”. “The only people we are making pay more are tourists, because tickets to the airport and the Paris Visite ticket are becoming more expensive,” said Pécresse.

In future, there will be a flat rate of 13 euros for transfers between the airports and the city center, regardless of whether you use a bus or the metro. According to the transport company, the cheapest option currently costs 10.30 euros.

The day or multi-day tickets intended for visitors will now only be available for the greater Paris area, and no longer in a cheaper version restricted to the Paris city area. Previously, a day ticket was available for 13.95 euros, limited to the city area. In future, a day ticket will cost 29.90 euros, but will then entitle you to travel throughout the entire greater Paris area, including the airports.

The price for a single ticket is also increasing from 2.15 euros to 2.50 euros. However, unlike before, it is now also possible to travel to the surrounding area, for example to visit the Palace of Versailles.
