The US Federal Reserve has started the interest rate turnaround with an unusually large step downwards. To the surprise of many experts, it lowered the key monetary policy rate by half a percentage point on Wednesday – to the new range of 4.75 to 5.00 percent. It was the first reduction since the beginning of the decade, when the Corona crisis forced the Fed to ease. (Reuters)
