Collective bargaining: Esken to Lindner: Collective bargaining law is coming

The collective bargaining agreement law is becoming the next point of contention in the traffic light government. The SPD wants companies that work for the federal government to pay according to the collective agreement. The FDP, led by its chairman Christian Lindner, obviously has reservations about this, which SPD chairwoman Saskia Esken considers unwise. “The collective bargaining agreement law is coming. Wanting to stop it out of a misguided desire to be business-friendly is not very smart of the FDP,” Esken told the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).

Good wages must be guaranteed when someone works on behalf of the state. Where the federal government awards contracts, there must be equal competitive conditions for everyone. “And wage dumping should not give anyone an advantage there,” said Esken.

According to government circles in Berlin, Lindner’s Finance Ministry first wants to relieve companies of bureaucracy elsewhere.

In their coalition agreement in 2021, the SPD, Greens and FDP agreed to pass a collective bargaining agreement law.
