PUTRAJAYA, SEPT 19 – The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received 2,575 emergency calls involving falling trees for the period from January to July this year, seeing Selangor record the highest number.
JBPM in a statement today informed that there were 441 cases of fallen trees in Selangor followed by 321 in Perak and 264 in Sarawak.
Out of the total number of reported cases of eight deaths, 27 victims suffered various injuries while the other 37 survived.
JBPM advises the public, especially road users to always be alert when on the road during bad weather.
“Drivers need to pay attention to the surrounding conditions, especially when on roads with large or old trees on the left and right of the road.
“If something untoward happens, don’t panic, turn off the vehicle’s engine first and try to ask for help from the public or call the emergency line 999 to get help,” according to the statement. – Named
