Ilkay Gündogan is mourning the big chances he missed in Manchester City’s goalless draw at the start of the new Champions League season. Against Inter Milan, the former German national team captain missed two opportunities just before the end. “A draw against a very strong team. It’s a shame that I couldn’t convert at least one of my two headers,” wrote Gündogan after the 0-0 draw at X. “But we’ll keep going.”

In the 89th minute, the 33-year-old midfielder headed the ball from six meters straight into the arms of former Bundesliga goalkeeper Yann Sommer. Five minutes later, just seconds before the final whistle, he sent a diving header from a similar distance over the goal. Gündogan came on for Kevin De Bruyne at half-time and visibly livened up City’s attacking play.

Gündogan had ended his career in the DFB team in the summer and returned to the English champions after only one season at FC Barcelona.
