BANGKOK, SEPT 19 – A 64-year-old woman was preparing to cook an evening meal at her home in Bangkok when she was attacked by a python last Tuesday.

“I wanted to scoop water and when I sat down it bit me immediately,” Arom Arunroj told the press Thairath Thailand.

“I saw the snake wrapped around me,” he added.

The four to five meter long python wrapped around his body, pinning him to his kitchen floor.

“I held his head, but he didn’t let go of me, instead he kept tightening his entanglement,” he said.

The python is a non-venomous predator, but it is capable of killing its prey by entangling them, causing the victim to experience suffocation.

He was leaning on his kitchen door, crying for help, but at first no one heard him until about an hour and a half later, a neighbor who happened to be walking across the area heard his screams. He later reported the incident to the authorities.

The police officer who responded, Anusorn Wongmalee told The Associated Press, when he arrived, the woman was still leaning against her door, looking tired and pale, with the snake still coiled around her body.

Police and animal control officers used iron crowbars to hit the snake’s head until it released its coils.

Arom spent about two hours last Tuesday dealing with the python before being released.

He was treated following several snake bites but no serious injuries occurred according to his statement to the media after the incident. – AP
