MAYFIELD, Ohio

A stolen vehicle hit on plate-reading cameras Sept. 13 and was then located at True North Shell by responding officers.

It was determined that the dealer plates on the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Canton.

The driver said that he works for a repossession company and decided to drive the vehicle instead of towing it. He said he repossessed the vehicle in Canton and was bringing it to Cleveland. He offered no explanation as to how the dealer plates got onto the vehicle.

Officers spoke with the 50-year-old man’s supervisor and learned that he had violated company policy by driving the vehicle. They removed the plates to keep as evidence and the man was subsequently picked up by his supervisor.

Charges are pending as detectives try to decipher the inaccuracies in the man’s story.

Harassing communication: SOM Center Road

A police dispatcher took a call on the non-emergency line at 2:40 a.m. Sept. 11 from a male who asked if she was wearing panties.

The dispatcher only replied by asking for the reason for the call.

The caller said that he would call back at another time since his question was not answered.

Police are trying to identify the caller.

Traffic complaint: SOM Center Road

A motorist said Sept. 11 that a driver was throwing trash out her window, which was causing other vehicles to swerve to avoid it.

He said it began when she threw out a cigarette butt in Mayfield Heights and continued with a bag, paper, and a bottle.

Officers stopped the suspect’s vehicle but could not confirm any trash was thrown from her car. She was strongly warned, and she said that she was being tailgated by other vehicles.

Suspicious activity: Wilson Mills Road

Around 9 p.m. Sept. 11, a resident in the 6900-block reported hearing what he believed to be three gunshots and said he saw vehicles speeding towards Gates Mills.

Another resident in the 6800-block also said he heard four gunshots, but officers could not find any involved vehicles or determine the source of the suspected gunshots.

Suspicious person: SOM Center Road

A caller said Sept. 13 that while speaking to her friend on the phone, an unknown person somehow joined the call and told her friend that her electricity was going to be shut off if her bill was not paid immediately.

Officers responded to the friend’s home in the village and confirmed that nobody was at her home, and she was unaware of any overdue electrical bills.

Vandalism: Wilson Mills Road

A resident Sept. 14 that sometime overnight someone destroyed a Kamala Harris campaign sign in her yard.
