BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 20 Sept- The spread of a video that went viral on social media about the incident of many stranded fish believed to have happened in Kampong Pengkalan Sibabau, Mentiri, was recently untrue and it has been confirmed that it actually happened abroad.

This matter was confirmed by the Fisheries Department itself in a statement issued today, and went on to explain that it has become the department’s program to constantly monitor and analyze the reddish water in the waters of Brunei Darussalam that can be harmful to the public’s health.

So far, the Fisheries Department has found that the country’s waters are free from the occurrence of reddish water and small fish such as tamban, aur-aur and pusu are safe to eat. Therefore, the public and fishermen are advised not to feel anxious or worried about the incident.

The Department of Fisheries would like to advise the public not to easily believe information and news spread online or through social media platforms such as whatsapp, twitter or X, tiktok, instagram, facebook and others without ensuring its validity.

In addition, the public is reminded to be more responsible and not to spread any matter that has not been confirmed by this Department.
