It begins with a murder, at night, in a car. And finally, a young student, her single mother and her devious boss suddenly find themselves in danger. The TV thriller “In the Net of Greed” can be seen on Saturday (September 21) at 8:15 p.m. on Das Erste.
Office manager Anna Grawe (Tanja Wedhorn) enjoys working for Berlin MP Bea Kober (Rosa Enskat). When, at Kober’s request, she hides an envelope containing a lot of money from the public prosecutor’s office and later opens it, Anna knows that Bea is in trouble. The politician is in contact with the Kazakh oligarch Parygin (Eugen Knecht), who wants to build a marina in her constituency, which has few tourists.
A killer strikes
The ignorant Anna also has no idea that her daughter Larissa (Paula Hartmann), who is studying in London, had an affair with the married businessman and is now blackmailing him with an intimate video. When Anna and her daughter travel to the sleepy coastal village to visit her grandmother Magda (Jutta Wachowiak), it is not only the corruption scandal that catches up with them. Senior Public Prosecutor Limmer (Clelia Sarto) follows them to the Baltic coast – and Parygin has sent a killer there, who has already struck.
Director Franziska Schlotterer (52, “Totgeschwiegen”) and author Michael Vershinin (62, “Ein Krimi aus Passau”) shot their film in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Unfortunately, they focus less on the political scandal surrounding the murder at the beginning and more on the family entanglements.
Hardened or naive?
The consequences that every small decision made by one person can have for everyone are shown quite well. However, it becomes increasingly clear that all three main characters have a fair amount of criminal energy. An expensive scholarship, fine jewelry, other favors – a dangerous web of mutual dependencies is created here. This ends fatally for at least one of the three women.
Tanja Wedhorn (52, “Praxis mit Meerblick”) and Paula Hartmann (23, “Decision Game”) make a good team of a caring but also seducible mother and her rather sober and determined daughter. Both characters also have a certain callousness and naivety that gets them into serious trouble. But Rosa Enskat (57, “Bis ans Ende der Nacht”) also plays an impressive character who impresses with a mixture of self-interest and unscrupulousness. In the end, it turns out that one family is destroyed and another is left badly shaken.
