A man ran through a regional train in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, screaming, with a knife in his hand, and stabbed a toilet door with it. No one was injured in the incident on the RE1 line late Thursday evening, according to the federal police. The suspected perpetrator, a 33-year-old, was arrested after a short escape. The possible murder weapon was also confiscated.
According to the police, the man boarded the train at Götz station. Götz is a district of the municipality of Groß Kreutz. Before boarding, the man kicked the door of the train. When the train attendant asked him about it and wanted to check his ticket, the man is said to have pushed her to the ground.
The train attendant fled to a toilet, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed the door. He is said to have screamed and demanded that the door be opened. The train attendant alerted the train driver, who stopped the train and rushed to help. The man threatened him with the knife, whereupon the train driver and the train attendant fled to the driver’s cabin.
Suspected perpetrator is known to police
According to police, the man ran screaming through the train, which was carrying 100 passengers. The train driver opened the doors and the suspect fled outside. Around three hours later, he was caught nine kilometers from the crime scene in Brandenburg an der Havel in the Wust district. A knife was also found at the level crossing – it is being investigated whether this is the murder weapon.
The man is known to the police for thefts. The police are investigating for threats, damage to property and violation of the weapons law. After the investigation was completed, the 33-year-old was released. The train conductor was in shock after the attack, said a police spokeswoman.
