CLEVELAND, Ohio — Two conference championships could be dictated as the high school football regular season approaches its midway point on Friday night.
Avon (4-0), ranked No. 2 in the cleveland.com Top 25, plays host to No. 11 North Ridgeville (4-0) in a battle of Southwestern Conference heavyweights. Two counties over to the east, No. 3 Mentor (4-0) plays host to No. 17 Cleveland Heights (2-2) on Friday night for a game that could decide the Greater Cleveland Conference title.
While Avon seeks a ninth straight SWC crown, Mentor looks to avenge its 14-13 overtime loss last year to the Tigers, who went on to win their conference’s championship.
Meanwhile, No. 1 St. Edward (4-0) plays host to Massillon (3-1) in a meeting of defending OHSAA Division I and Division II state champions. That has not happened since 2017.

Watterson back on top after a 75-yard TD pass. The PAT fails and Chardon trails 13-7 with 6:56 left in the first quarter.
7:15 pm – Lakewood vs Rocky River
Jaylen Chappell scores on a 1-yard run. Lakewood leads 14-0 with 7:24 left in the first quarter.
7:15 pm – Avon Lake vs Midview
The Shoremen take a 3-0 lead with 4:49 left in the first quarter on a 35-yard FG.
7:14 pm – Chardon vs Bishop Watterson
Drayton Allgood scores on a 25-yard TD run and Chardon ties the game at 7 with 7:21 left in the first quarter.
7:12 pm – Green vs Massillon Jackson
Green drives 90 yards, capping it with a 21-yard TD pass from Tyson Hunka to Antonio Martin for a 7-0 lead with 7:26 left in the first quarter.
7:11 pm – Mentor vs Cleveland Heights
The Tigers score first, take a 7-0 lead with 6:25 left in the first quarter.
7:07 pm – Kirtland vs Cuyahoga Heights
Danny Alfieri scores on a 63-yard TD run to give Kirtland a 7-0 lead with 8:44 left it he first quarter.
7:06 pm – Lakewood vs Rocky River
Lakewood uses a 70-yard TD pass to go up 7-0 with 10:30 left in the first quarter.
7:02 pm – Chardon vs. Bishop Watterson
Watterson returns the opening kickoff for a TD to take an early 7-0 lead on Chardon.
