Italy reached the finals of the Davis Cup

LONDON, SEPT 20 – Italy, the defending Davis Cup champions, will meet Argentina in the Final 8 in November after the draw for the knockout stage was made yesterday.

Also listed in the upper draw, the United States (US) will face Australia, while in the lower half draw, 2022 champions Canada will face Germany and Spain will face the Netherlands.

A total of 16 teams competed in the Davis Cup group stage which took place in Bologna, Manchester, Valencia and Zhuhai last week. Group winners and runners-up in each location advance to the knockout stages of the annual men’s team tournament.

The eight teams that qualified for the quarter-finals will compete for the 2024 title in Malaga, Spain, from November 19 to 24.

Each knockout round will consist of two singles matches and one doubles match.

Italy managed to win all three of their group matches despite being without new US Open champion Jannik Sinner. However, Sinner is expected to rejoin the team in Spain.

The world number one is likely to face world number three, Carlos Alcaraz, in the final on November 24 as Italy and the hosts are on different draws. – AFP
