Cycling: End of October: Geschke farewell at the Münsterland Giro

Simon Geschke will end his successful cycling career on October 3rd at the Münsterland Giro. The 38-year-old announced on Instagram that the German one-day race will be his last appearance as a professional. Before that, the Berlin native will take part in the road race at the World Championships in Zurich on September 29th.

He was happy that he could race in Münster. “After that, my season and my professional career will be over,” wrote Geschke. In the past, Erik Zabel, Fabian Wegmann and André Greipel had already ended their careers with the race in Münster.

Popularity through mountain jersey

Geschke’s greatest success is the stage win at the 2015 Tour de France. At the age of 36, there was another surge in popularity when Geschke wore the mountain jersey for a long time at the 2022 Tour de France and was only pushed into second place in the special classification by the Danish overall winner Jonas Vingegaard shortly before the end.

Representing Vingegaard, Geschke rode the final stage to Paris in the famous white jersey with red dots. This year, Geschke also achieved his best overall result in one of the three three-week tours, finishing 14th overall in the Giro d’Italia.
