Frankfurt (Oder) – In view of the growing risk of flooding on the Oder, people must prepare for traffic restrictions. In the border region of Frankfurt (Oder) and neighboring Slubice in Poland, restrictions are also likely to be felt on the city bridge.
Slubice will restrict access for non-residents from Sunday morning, as the city announced on Friday. Transit traffic via Slubice to Germany will not be possible. Those passing through should use another border crossing. The city wants to avoid traffic jams due to the risk of flooding.

“There will be police patrols in many places in the municipality. The officers will check who is allowed to enter the city,” it said. Residents of the municipality and the district who want to work in Germany could, however, enter the city and cross the Slubice-Frankfurt bridge. Frankfurt (Oder) and the Polish town of Slubice are closely intertwined and connected by a 250-meter-long Oder bridge.
Further restrictions planned
The Märkisch-Oderland district also announced that the Polish district of Lebus was deciding whether to close the Küstrin-Kietz/Küstrin an der Oder border bridge. In addition, due to the condition of the bridge – not because of the flooding – a weight limit of 7.5 to 3.5 tons applies.
Frankfurt (Oder) is also planning traffic restrictions in urban areas near the riverbank. Tram lines are to be diverted.
According to the water level portal of the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment, alarm level 3 will be reached for Frankfurt (Oder) on Tuesday, and then the highest level 4 on Wednesday evening. However, the forecast is subject to uncertainty. The guideline for declaring alarm level 4 is a water level in Frankfurt (Oder) of 6 meters. In normal conditions, it is around 2.10 meters.
