3rd Football League: Energie Cottbus leaves Stuttgart no chance with 4-0 win

FC Energie Cottbus has confirmed its upward trend in the 3rd football league. Coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz’s team won clearly 4-0 (2-0) against VfB Stuttgart II. In front of 9077 spectators, Tolcay Cigerci (29th/45th+3) and Maximilian Pronichev (51st/75th) scored the goals for the Lusatian team’s home victory.

Against the strong Stuttgart team, Energie initially struggled to gain a similar level of control as in the 3-0 win in Verl. After a mistake by defensive leader Filip Kusic, guest striker Thomas Kastanaras (5th) could have given VfB an early lead, but missed. On the other side, the highly rated Stuttgart keeper Dennis Seimen made two saves against Maximilian Krauß and Timmy Thiele (12th).

After that, Stuttgart came closer to scoring, with opportunities from Luca Raimund (21′) and Benjamin Boakye (26′). But Energie took the lead through Cigerci, who converted a pass from the left by Phil Halbauer. Energie earned the score with even more offensive courage and Cigerci increased the score to 2-0 before half-time after a quick counterattack.

The early goal by substitute Maximilian Pronichev was the preliminary decision. He also scored the best goal of the day with a scissor-kick to make it 4-0. The next test is on Tuesday with the away game against VfL Osnabrück (7 p.m.).
