BR Volleys have a successful start to the season

The Berlin Volleys have had a successful start to the new Bundesliga season. In their home game against the Grizzlys Giesen, the German volleyball record champions won 3:0 (25:16, 26:24, 25:21). In front of 5,120 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle, diagonal attacker Jake Hanes was the winner’s most successful scorer with 20 points.

Hanes scored his first point for the BR Volleys in the first set, making it 6:4. After that, not only the 2.10 meter tall American was on top form, but also the whole team. They pulled ahead for the first time with an ace from setter Johannes Tille at 17:8, making it nine points ahead for the first time and maintained this lead until the end of the set.

But Giesen fought back. The Berliners were behind in the second set against a much stronger opponent (8:12, 14:17). They needed to extend the set before Olympic participant Moritz Reichert made the 2:0 set lead perfect.

In the third period, the Volleys had to pull out all the stops to evade the fierce resistance of their opponents. Ultimately, the hosts’ strong block and Moritz Reichert, who was in outstanding form, made the difference.

The last Bundesliga game against each other was played by the Berliners last season, away against Giesen, with a score of 0:3.
