WESTLAKE, Ohio –

Aggravated menacing: Center Ridge Road

A Center Ridge Road funeral home employee called the police department at 11 a.m. on Sept. 10 to report an altercation broke out during a service, and a family member of the deceased needed to be removed.

Officers discovered a verbal argument broke out involving a sister of the deceased who had been estranged from the family. The suspect made threats to shoot “everyone in here,” according to a police department press release.

Officers took into custody a 60-year-old Cleveland woman. No firearm was located. She was charged with aggravated menacing directed toward certain family members. She later was charged with domestic violence for making threats against her son.

OVI, firearm: Center Ridge Road

At 12:20 a.m. on Sept. 8, officers stopped a vehicle at Center Ridge and Clague roads after witnessing it weave and strike a curb.

The officers spotted a firearm in plain sight next to the man driving. They collected the gun and noticed that the driver appeared intoxicated. He had his belt undone and his zipper was down. The 48-year-old Tinley Park, Ill., man was field tested and arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and possessing a gun while intoxicated. He refused a breath test.

Doughnut tossing: Detroit Road

A Dunkin Donuts employee called the police department at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 to report a middle-aged woman became upset and threw a donut at him before driving away.

When officers stopped the vehicle, the driver admitted to becoming upset with the employees because her order was wrong. The manager of the doughnut shop said that the woman was no longer welcome there. A trespass warning was given to the woman before she was sent on her way.

OVI: Detroit Road

A caller at 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 9 reported that a gray SUV was driving on the wrong side of Dover Center Road from the North Olmsted line.

The caller followed the SUV until officers caught up and observed traffic violations. The vehicle stopped on Detroit Road at Bassett Road. The 37-year-old Westlake driver appeared to be intoxicated. The driver took a breath test, and his blood alcohol level was more than 2½ times the legal limit. He was cited with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, prohibited breath alcohol content, and a lane violation.

OVI, narcotics: Columbia Road

Officers at 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 responded to Taco Bell after employees reported that a vehicle in the lot had a flat tire and the driver appeared to be intoxicated.

After the employees told the driver they had called the police, he drove away on the flat tire. Officers located the Dodge Journey in a nearby parking lot, and the driver was sitting on the ground nearby while talking to himself. The 31-year-old Lorain resident slurred his words, spoke slowly, and appeared intoxicated.

The driver denied drinking that morning but said he had been smoking marijuana and what he described as “Spice.” Officers found in his possession a small amount of the illegal synthetic narcotic, according to the police press statement.

Officers arrested the driver for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after administering field sobriety tests. He refused a chemical test at the Westlake jail and was placed under a license suspension. However, officers discovered he didn’t have a valid driver’s license. He also was charged with felony possession of narcotics, according to a police statement.
