Mobility: Associations: Do not make Deutschlandticket more expensive

The possible price increase for the Deutschlandticket has been met with rejection by an alliance of social and environmental associations, trade unions and the Protestant Church. “The Deutschlandticket must not become a brief episode in the history of our country. It must be established permanently and at a stable price,” said the Alliance for Socially Acceptable Mobility before the price decision on Monday. “Affordable and sustainable mobility is part of the basic public service. This must not end at city, district or state borders,” it said.

The Deutschlandticket for 49 euros a month has been valid since May 1, 2023. It entitles you to travel on all local and regional buses and trains nationwide, but not on long-distance trains. The ticket is intended as a subscription, but can be canceled monthly. For commuters, especially in metropolitan areas, it is often cheaper than previous season tickets.

On Monday, the transport ministers of the federal states want to agree on a new price. Increases to 54, 59 or even 64 euros per month are being discussed for next year. What will happen to the Deutschlandticket after 2025 is still open.

With a change in the federal government next year, there is a risk that the financing will be called into question, stressed the Alliance for Socially Acceptable Mobility. The alliance includes the Evangelical Church in Germany, the German Trade Union Confederation, the Workers’ Welfare Association and social and environmental associations. They are calling for the Germany Ticket to include options for taking children along and for a nationwide uniform regulation for social tickets. They are also calling for major investments in buses and trains.
