It was the third eastern election of 2024. In the long SPD-dominated state of Brandenburg, a shift to the right was becoming apparent, but the SPD led by Dietmar Woidke was able to win the election by a narrow margin over the AfD. In the weeks before, serious changes in the political landscape had already been announced in the elections in Thuringia and Saxony. The strong results of the AfD and the BSW have now been confirmed in the third state election.
