Dahmetal is the SPD’s second vote stronghold

Brandenburg is divided in the state elections. In many parts of the state, the AfD is enjoying enormous support despite its election defeat to the SPD. There are real strongholds in the south of the state in particular. A look at the highest values within Brandenburg’s municipalities.

SPD: The Woidke SPD emerged as the winner of the state election. The SPD achieved the highest share of second votes in the municipality of Dahmetal (Teltow-Fläming district) with 40.3 percent. The party performed particularly poorly in Hirschfeld (Elbe-Elster district), where it received a measly 13.4 percent. In the 2019 state election, the SPD recorded its strongest results at the municipal level in the town of Niemegk (Potsdam-Mittelmark) and in the municipality of Cumlosen (Prignitz), each with 41.4 percent.

AfD: In Hirschfeld, the AfD achieved its strongest second vote result in Sunday’s state election. In the municipality in the south of Brandenburg, the party received 61.3 percent – the highest second vote value in any municipality in all of Brandenburg. The AfD received the fewest second votes in Kleinmachnow (Potsdam-Mittelmark district) in the Berlin commuter belt with 11.5 percent. In the 2019 state election, Hirschfeld (50.6 percent) and Kleinmachnow (9.2 percent) were already the two outliers in terms of AfD second votes.

CDU: One of the losers in the election was the CDU, which slipped to 12.1 percent compared to 2019. The party achieved its best result at the municipal level this year in Großbeeren (Teltow-Fläming district) with 22.7 percent. In the municipality of Jämlitz-Klein Düben (Spree-Neiße district), only 3.4 percent of voters gave the CDU their second vote. In 2019, the CDU had its stronghold in the municipality of Friedrichswalde (Barnim) with 33.7 percent of the second votes.

BSW: Third best party straight away: The Sahra Wagenknecht alliance owes this success to the high level of approval in the town of Lychen (Uckermark district) with 19.6 percent. In Kleinmachnow, the newly founded party achieved its worst result with 6.7 percent.

Greens: The Greens are out of the state parliament. The party received its highest approval in Kleinmachnow (Potsdam-Mittelmark) with 14.2 percent of the second votes. In five municipalities the party did not receive a single vote. These include Legde (Prignitz district), Frauendorf (Oberspreewald-Lausitz district), Bleyen-Genschmar (Märkisch-Oderland district), Schraden (Elbe-Elster district) and Hermsdorf (Oberspreewald-Lausitz district).

Left: The Left did not make it into the state parliament either. The party led by top candidate Sebastian Walter did best in the municipality of Schönermark (Oberhavel district) with 7.8 percent of the second votes. In three municipalities the Left did not receive a single vote. The party ended up in Hohenbocka, Kroppen (both in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district) and Alt-Zauche-Wußwerk (Dahme-Spreewald district). Five years ago the Left scored the most points in the town of Strausberg (Märkisch-Oderland district) with 20 percent.
