Brunei, HK explore ADR cooperation

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 24 SEPT – Chairman of the Brunei Darussalam Arbitration Center (BDAC), Yang Arif Radin Safiee bin Radin Mas Basiuni received a courtesy visit from the Secretary of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HK), Paul Lam SC, yesterday.

Accompanying Paul Lam SC are officials from the Department of Justice, HK and the HK Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Among the matters discussed during the courtesy visit was exploring potential areas of cooperation between BDAC and the Department of Justice of the Special Administrative Region of HK in promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Brunei Darussalam and HK.

In addition, the two sides also discussed capacity building in legal and dispute resolution, with the aim of increasing the number of local arbitrators through cooperation with the HK International Arbitration Center (HKIAC) and other established institutions.

Also present during the courtesy visit was the board of directors and management of BDAC. The visit ended with an exchange of souvenirs between the two parties, followed by a group photo session to commemorate the occasion.
