The clouds have cleared back out as high pressure moved back into the region. The system that moved through the area yesterday did not lead to much rainfall. Most of us only received a trace.
We have a nice day ahead as high pressure keeps us quiet. Skies will be bright and winds will be light as we warm back up into the upper 70s and low 80s. Before temperatures start to rebound you will want to grab a jacket as you head out the door.
Clear skies and light winds will allow a fall chill to settle back into the area. Overnight low temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s.
We can expect similar conditions Thursday, with the exception of a stronger breeze picking back up to the west. A chance for rain late in the week is looking low and will also be our only opportunity over the next 8 days.
This next chance for rain will be associated with a dangerous storm that is tracking from the Caribbean into the Gulf of Mexico. Helene, currently a Tropical Storm, is expected to soon strengthen into a hurricane.
The Big Bend of Florida is expected to take the biggest hit from a Major Category 3 Hurricane Helene late Thursday. As moisture moves inland the system will weaken and some of its moisture will be right at our doorstep Friday.
Most of the tropical rainfall will stay to our east but Eastern and South Central Kansas could get skimmed by some of it. This looks less likely come Saturday.
Over the weekend, the remnant system will continue to spin and fall apart as it slowly tracks away from us. Rising temperatures will be warmest to the west with highs well into the 80s. A cold front knocks temperatures down around 10 degrees next Tuesday and it will also come through dry.
