FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Country music star Kenny Chesney donated more than $1 million to nonprofit organizations throughout Massachusetts after concluding his 2024 “Sun Goes Down” tour at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough in August.
Chesney’s charitable donations included $100,000 each to the Foxborough Police Department and Foxborough Fire Department, according to MassLive. He also donated funds to the Boston Medical Center, Animal Rescue League of Boston and youth music programs.
Chesney wrapped up his “Sun Goes Down” tour with a three-night finale at Gillette Stadium on Aug. 23, 24 and 25, playing in front of an estimated combined crowd of 180,000.
“Kenny loves the people of who’ve been such a part of the Gillette experience over all these years,” a spokesperson for Chesney told MassLive. “As someone who likes to quietly give back to enrich others’ lives, this is his way of spreading the love and saying thank you for everything that’s made all these stadium shows so special. To him, it’s a gift for others, not something he wants to talk about.”
Gillette Stadium is also the home of the NFL’s New England Patriots. In In August, Chesney told MassLive he has a longtime friendship with Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who “took a chance on us early” in 2005.
“It was a leap of faith. People weren’t doing stadium shows; now it’s common place,” Chesney said. “But back then, that wasn’t the case. It was kind of unheard of.”
Chesney’s “Sun Goes Down” tour opened in April, just one month after he released his new album, “Born,” in March.
