WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — President Joe Biden has approved a major disaster declaration for severe storms that impacted Kansas over the summer.
Gov. Laura Kelly made the request for storms that impacted the state from June 26 to July 7.
The counties named in the declaration were Chase, Clark, Comanche, Doniphan, Finney, Geary, Gray, Greeley, Hamilton, Kearny, Meade, Scott, Thomas, and Wabaunsee.
The declaration allows state and local governments, as well as certain private nonprofit organizations that provide vital and essential services, such as rural electric cooperatives, to apply for funds for emergency and permanent work to repair or replace infrastructure damaged by the disaster.
