UBD launches Library System 2.0

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, SEPT 25 – In order to improve service efficiency and user experience, the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Library (UBD) held the launch of the Library System 2.0, a new system using KOHA and DSpace at a ceremony held in the lobby of the UBD Library.

Both systems will enhance resource discovery and digital archiving capabilities and provide a more comprehensive and user-friendly library experience.

Present as the guest of honor and subsequently launching the library system was the Vice Chancellor of UBD, Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle.

Earlier Acting Chief Librarian, Dayangku Noraini binti Pengiran Haji Idris in her speech explained among other things that the library will start using a new system which is KOHA for library management and DSpace for the UBD Library repository system.

Selection of KOHA, open-source integrated library system and DSpace, open-source repositoryis also the library’s support for sustainable development goals by improving and expanding access to quality education through affordable services.

In addition, it also promotes innovation and infrastructure by enabling libraries to adapt and optimize systems according to local needs without high costs.

“It also reduces dependence on commercial vendors and extends the lifespan of the system through continuous improvements from the community,” added Dayangku Noraini.

He also hoped that this new system would strengthen the relationship between the library and the university community, especially students and faculty.

“The library also sees an opportunity for collaboration with the faculty, especially in the aspect of contribution and access to publications or studies which will definitely help improve the position in the research index, strengthen academic reputation and so on,” he explained.

At the ceremony, guests of honor and other guests had the opportunity to visit the sales area in conjunction with the launch of the system.

In addition, the UBD Library also held a book fair, sales of food and drinks and other products, a blood donation campaign and health check-up services from September 24 to 27 for the public to visit.
