Beachwood woman listed as owner of several cars — only she didn’t know it

Beachwood woman listed as owner of several cars — only she didn’t know it

BEACHWOOD, Ohio — A Beachwood woman was puzzled when told by the BMV that she is the registered owner of three cars of which she knew nothing. One of those cars, she learned, had been involved in a crime.

At 1:20 p.m. Sept. 20, the woman, 40, went to the police station to report that someone had used her driver’s license information to purchase cars.

She was first alerted to the situation when an Eastlake police sergeant contacted her on Sept. 19 to tell her that a female was arrested in that city driving a 2011 Buick that was supposedly owned by the woman.

The Eastlake sergeant told the woman to call the Ohio BMV to learn more and, when the woman called the BMV, she was told that there were actually two more cars on record that she supposedly owned.

The woman bought none of the cars and did not know the female arrested in Eastlake.

Two of the cars had a listed owner living on East 206 Street in Euclid, and another on Euclid Avenue in Euclid. The woman has never lived in Euclid and does not known anyone living on these streets.

The cars were each bought at Ron Marhoffer Hyundai in Green, Ohio.

The signatures on the purchase agreements were not the woman’s.

The woman suffered no financial loss. The registration information was gleaned from her driver’s license. The matter is under investigation.
