Pepper Pike marks its 100th anniversary Oct. 1 with Centennial Dedication event: Harvest Festival is Oct. 6.

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio — The city has been celebrating its centennial throughout 2024, but Oct. 1 will be the anniversary of the actual date, in 1924, that Pepper Pike became a village.

Although Oct. 1, this year, falls on a Tuesday — not a day usually associated with community celebrations — the city still has plans to mark the date.

At 10 a.m. Oct. 1, at Shaker Circle, Pepper Pike will hold a “Centennial Dedication” event that will include activities that give a nod to the present and the future.

In recent months, the city has been accepting from residents items for inclusion in a time capsule. That capsule will be buried at the Circle at the event, with instructions for it to be opened in 2124.

The morning will also include a tree planting ceremony intended to mark Pepper Pike’s “growth and commitment to preserving its natural beauty as it grows stronger, blossoming with life, for generations to come,” according to a city release.

The event will further include a Centennial Stone dedication, as a special commemorative stone will be unveiled and serve for years to come as a lasting reminder of the 100th anniversary.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity for residents of all ages to come together and reflect on Pepper Pike’s storied history and future,” Mayor Richard Bain wrote in the release to residents.

Following the ceremony, refreshments will be provided as residents socialize.

Harvest Festival

The next event, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 6, is the Pepper Pike Harvest Festival & Dinner. Although ticket sales have ended for the dinner portion of the event, the festival, taking place from 3-5 p.m. at Pepper Pike Park, at the city hall complex, will feature face painting, pumpkin decorating, a petting zoo, hayrides, and more.

And, just before the festival gets under way, from 1-2 p.m., residents are invited to take a Centennial Bike Ride with the Mayor.

The free bike ride event will start and end at Pepper Pike City Hall, 28000 Shaker Blvd., and take riders on a scenic tour of historic sites throughout the city.
