High pressure continues to dominate our conditions here locally. This will keep us quiet and dry. Active weather in the country is found in the eastern third where there is a boundary producing steady rain and Florida braces for a hit from Hurricane Helene.
The Big Bend area of Florida is expected to see Helene make landfall this evening as a major category 4 with winds up to 130+ mph. Flooding and gusty winds will also be an issue farther inland all the way into the weekend.
Our area will not see any impacts from Hurricane Helene. The most we will see is a just a few clouds in South Central Kansas. Eastern Kansas could get skimmed by some rain but it will be light and will not last long.
Wichita’s average high today is 80. Temperatures today will be right at and slightly above average.
We can expect this through the weekend and into early next week too. The warmest highs will be in Western Kansas in the upper 80s.
A cold front blows through by Tuesday. This will cool us back down a bit. It also will not bring us any moisture.
We return to the 80s Wednesday before another gusty northerly wind shift by Thursday knocks temperatures right back down a few degrees. That wind shift also looks to come through dry.
