Resident scammed out of more than $8,000: Parma Police Blotter

PARMA, Ohio

Theft, Greenlawn Avenue: On Sept. 3, a Greenlawn Avenue resident called police after discovering they were scammed.

An arriving officer talked to the caller, who said after receiving a fraudulent email from Amazon they reported being scammed.

What transpired was the resident ended up transferring more than $8,000 to an unknown party’s account.

There are no suspects. Police are investigating.

Identity fraud, W. 130th Street: On Sept. 4, a W. 130th Street resident called police after discovering his was the victim of fraud.

An arriving officer talked to the caller, who believed a mailed check written from his account was stolen from the post office, forged and used for fraudulent activity.

There are no suspects. Police are investigating.

Drug abuse, Snow Road: During a Sept. 2 traffic stop of a GMC Acadia observed traveling left of center on Snow Road, police discovered felony drugs.

The driver was arrested for drug abuse.

Weapons charge, Chevrolet Boulevard: During a Sept. 2 traffic stop of a Jeep Cherokee — with dark tinted windows on front windshield and driver/passenger windows — on Chevrolet Boulevard, police discovered suspected felony drugs and a stolen firearm.

The Cleveland driver was arrested for a weapons charge and drug abuse.

Theft, W. 44th Street: On Sept. 3, police were dispatched to a W. 44th Street address after a resident discovered his gun was stolen overnight from a locked vehicle.

The officer said there were no signs of forced entry to vehicle. There are no suspects.

Police are investigating.

Kia theft, O’Malley Drive: On Sept. 1, an O’Malley Drive resident called police after discovering their Kia Seltos was stolen from the parking lot.

There are no suspects. Police are investigating.

Weapons charge, Thornton Drive: During a Sept. 1 traffic stop of a Buick sedan seen not using a turn signal, police discovered suspected felony drugs and a loaded handgun.

The Hanoverton driver and Cleveland passenger were taken into custody.

Police are investigating.

Drug abuse, Pearl Road: On Sept. 2, police observed a Ford F150 fail to maintain its lane while traveling on Pearl Road.

During a search of the truck, police found suspected felony drugs and a firearm.

The driver was charged with a weapons offense and drug abuse.
