Train station Wi-Fi hacked by Islam haters

LONDON, SEPT 26 – Transport and police officials in the United Kingdom (UK) said today they are investigating a cyber security incident after users of a public Wi-Fi network at the country’s largest train station reported anti-Muslim messages.

Passengers trying to access Wi-Fi at 19 stations, including Manchester Piccadilly, Birmingham New Street, and several stations in London, on Wednesday night found a page that read “We love you, Europe,” followed by an anti-Islamic message listing a number of attacks. terrorist.

Network Rail, which manages the stations, said the Wi-Fi had been switched off and no passenger data had been taken.

“British Transport Police are investigating this incident,” Network Rail said in a statement. “This service is provided through a third party and has been suspended while an investigation is carried out.”

Police forces have confirmed that they are investigating reports of Islamophobic messages on some Network Rail Wi-Fi services.

Telent, the company that provides Wi-Fi at the stations, stated that “unauthorized changes” to the landing page were made from a “legitimate administrator account” and that the matter is now under criminal investigation.

The incident follows a more disturbing cyber attack in early September on Transport for London, which operates the capital’s bus, tube and commuter rail systems.

TFL said a number of customer names, contact details and bank account details were potentially exposed in the attack, which is being investigated by the National Crime Agency.

A 17-year-old teenager was arrested over the attack, questioned and bailed without charge.

Weeks later, the attack continues to affect transit companies’ ability to provide some online services such as refunds and real-time transit information. – AP
