VIENTIANE, SEPT 27 – China, Japan and South Korea agreed to channel technical expertise to ASEAN to empower the development of the renewable energy sector (REE) and clean energy.
The Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the three countries announced the commitment during the 21st ASEAN Energy Ministers’ (AMEM) + 3 (China, Japan, Korea) Meeting, today. .
“I made a statement earlier to thank them and we do expect technical assistance, especially in terms of technology to switch to clean energy and TBB,” he said.
He said this to the Malaysian media on the last day of the 42nd AMEM and related meetings that took place from 26 to 27 September.
As Vice Chairman of AMEM, Fadillah said the same assistance is expected by ASEAN from other developed countries such as the United States, Russia and Australia for the development of the sector.
Meanwhile regarding the outcome of the bilateral meeting with Vietnam outside the 42nd AMEM conference today, Fadillah said Malaysia proposed that the process of extending the existing memorandum of understanding (MoU) on oil and gas exploration cooperation between Petronas and a Vietnamese oil company could be accelerated.
“The MoU will actually expire and Petronas already has a team to submit an extension of the MoU up to the next 20 years so that the investment can continue.
“Vietnam’s Deputy Minister said the matter will be brought back to speed up the process and hopes that the MoU will be able to be continued,” he said.
In addition, he said, Malaysia also informed the interest of Gentari Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Petronas and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to invest in Vietnam in the wind energy industry. – Named
