BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, SEPT 27 – The Ministry of Education continues to strive to provide students in this country with life skills that make them more independent, proactive, competitive and self-reliant, in line with the demands of 21st century skills in education that include the 6C elements which are Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Character, Communication, Creativity, and Citizenship.

Accordingly, the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center (EIC), Ministry of Education today held the 6th Biz Literacy Competition Convention for primary school students across the country and the Competition BigStart the 11th time for secondary schools and colleges nationwide under the control of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs (KHEU).

Present as the guest of honor for the ceremony which took place in the Multi-Purpose Hall, Universiti Teknologi Brunei was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education, Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman who also presented prizes and certificates to the winners of the competition.

The ceremony was preceded by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and the Prayer of Blessing led by the Education Officer, Department of Islamic Studies, KHEU, Awang Muhammad Irfan bin Haji Aliakbar, and followed by a welcome speech from the Head of EIC, Ministry of Education, Awang Adna Shatriremie bin Haji A Abdul Rahman

The ceremony then continued with the culmination of the presentation competition (pitch) from the participants of the Celik-Biz Competition and Competition BigStart.

For the 6th Literacy-Biz Competition, the champion was won by Ceradik from Pengiran Kesuma Negara Primary School, Bukit Beruang Tutong, with the product name Lakastah Reading. Second place was won by Group Hydro from Rimba Primary School III, with the name of the product Manual Drip Water Irrigation Systems (DWIS) for Seedlings. While the third place was won by the Qahfs Group from the Belait Arab School with the product name Kamus Ar-Raqmi.

While the champion for the Competition BigStart 11th time, carried by the BIJAQ Group from Sayyidina Hasan High School with the product name Techno Bin. While the group The Arabic Wizards with the product name SPUD from Brunei Mahad Islamic School has managed to win second place and the third place is held by the SwapSmart Group from Chung Hwa Secondary School, Bandar Seri Begawan their product name is SwapSmart.

Touching on the Celik-Biz Competition it is an entrepreneurship and innovation education competition for Year 4 and 5 primary school students, while the competition BigStart is for high school and college students in Years 9 and 10 to produce creative and innovative prototypes, portfolios and presentation videos according to the four sub-themes selected. In addition, the contestants BigStart also required to produce Business Model Canvas. The theme of this year’s competition is Innovation in Entrepreneurship with four sub-themes viz Innovation, Edutainment, Digitalisation and Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0).

Among the purposes of this competition is to increase creativity, pragmatic and realistic thinking, as well as students’ innovative approach in planning projects based on entrepreneurial elements, as well as improving aspects related to the surrounding environment, in line with this year’s sub-theme.
