Vietnam and Cuba strengthen ties

HANOI, SEPT 27 – Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart To Lam in Havana yesterday, with the two countries signing several bilateral agreements during the visit.

“The world has seen many changes, but the friendship and unity between Vietnam and Cuba will never change,” said To Lam, 67, as quoted by the Cuban president at X.

The two presidents visited the Mariel commercial port, a free trade zone about 60 kilometers from the capital, where several Vietnamese companies operate, the official newspaper reported.

Cuba and Vietnam are among the five countries in the world still governed by a single Communist Party. However, the two countries are different in that Hanoi has liberalized its economy while Havana has not. – AFP
