Woman arrested after crashing pickup truck into bicyclist & driving away in Brook Park

BROOK PARK, Ohio – A Brook Park woman, 33, was arrested Sept. 11 after the pickup truck she was driving hit a bicyclist, then dragged the bicycle away, at Smith Road and Gallatin Boulevard.

A witness saw the collision, which occurred at about 8 a.m., and called police. The witness said the bicyclist, a man who was 18 at the time, was crossing the Smith-Gallatin intersection in the crosswalk.

The pickup truck driver, later identified as the Brook Park woman, continued driving after hitting the bicyclist. She turned west onto Rademaker Boulevard, with the bike still stuck to the bottom of the truck.

Police found the damaged bike in the parking lot of Interport Plaza 2 near Delores Boulevard. Security video provided by the Interport Plaza property manager showed a Nissan pickup speeding into the parking lot.

A blonde woman, who was the Brook Park woman, jumped out of the pickup truck and removed the bike from under the truck. Then she drove away northbound on Delores.

With help from license-plate-reading cameras, police learned the pickup truck’s license-plate number. They traced the plate to a 43-year-old man and spoke to the man’s ex-wife, who said the woman who drove the pickup truck that day, the Brook Park woman, was the man’s new girlfriend.

Police, once they identified the Brook Park woman, remembered that they had previous encounters with her. They drove to her home on Michael Drive, where the Nissan pickup, damaged on the front end, was parked in the driveway.

Police found the woman in her bedroom. When police asked her if she knew why they were there, she said yes.
