We might officially be in fall, but temperatures are feeling more like summer across the region today. Sunny skies allowed for temperatures to warm into the 80s with northwest Kansas climbing to the low 90s this afternoon.
The pattern of cool nights and warm afternoons continues into the start of the workweek. Overnight we fall back into the 50s. Winds become southerly across the state by sunrise.
Highs tomorrow will depend on the speed of our next cold front. Northwest Kansas will be the coolest spot across the region as they will see the boundary bring northerly flow earlier in the afternoon. The rest of us will bake ahead of the front with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s.
Northerly flow behind the front will be strong. Winds could gust to nearly 40 MPH along the boundary and stay breezy in its wake as cooler air filters into the state.
Strong winds, dry conditions, and above-average temperatures create heightened fire weather concerns for northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska. Fire Weather Warnings are in place through 9 PM Monday. Please avoid any outdoor burning tomorrow.
The cold front will cut through the state in the evening and overnight. While it will knock temperatures back a few degrees, we will not see any moisture out of this boundary.
Temperatures crash into the 70s by Tuesday finally giving us a fall-like feel for the first day of October. But temperatures rebound quickly and highs jump into the upper 90s by Thursday. Toasty conditions carry us into the upcoming weekend.
We will stay starved for moisture through the start of next week. The lack of rainfall will aid in worsening drought conditions across the state as we lock into a dry pattern for the first half of the month.
