MOSCOW, SEPT 30 – Israel has received preliminary intelligence about Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah’s visit to the southern suburbs of Beirut before he was killed in an airstrike, reports said. Sputnik which quoted the French press Le Parisian on Sunday.
On Saturday, Hezbollah confirmed that Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on Friday.
Israel was informed earlier on Friday of Nasrallah’s plans to visit the area, according to the newspaper report.
The airstrike that killed the leader was the biggest since 2006, according to sources Le Parisian.
Israel began a massive bombing campaign called Northern Arrows in southern and eastern Lebanon on Monday. Lebanon’s Ministry of Health put the death toll at over 1,500. Hezbollah responded by firing dozens of rockets towards northern Israel.
This rising tension is preceded by a series of pager explosions and walkie-talkies which rocked Lebanon from September 17 to 18, resulting in approximately 40 people being killed and nearly 3,500 injured.
The situation on the Israel-Lebanon border is getting worse after Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip began in October 2023. – Bernama
