MOSCOW, SEPT 30 – Hurricane Helene claimed at least 93 lives in the southeastern United States (US), reports Sputnikciting CNN today.
Yesterday morning, the death toll was 65.
Deaths were recorded in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. As of Sunday afternoon, nearly 2.1 million customers were still experiencing power outages in the state, according to the PowerOutage.us website.
Hundreds of people are still missing or have not been found due to communication network problems, the broadcaster added.
The hurricane made landfall in the United States late Thursday and became a tropical storm on Friday.
Late Saturday, the US Federal Emergency Management Agency said it was deploying more than 3,200 workers to join rescue operations and mitigate the effects of the disaster. – Named
