KUCHING, 2 OCT – The government’s move to enforce the Smoking Products Control Act for Public Health 2024 (Act 852) will promote a healthier and safer environment for all.
The people of Sarawak described the act which was gazetted on February 2 last and came into effect yesterday simultaneously with the Regulations and Orders under it, as important to protect the public’s health.
Private company clerk, Nur Shakila Wan Ibrahim, 28, said through the implementation of the act, it can reduce exposure to cigarette smoke, especially for children, women and individuals with health problems.

The bank employee, Alias Idris Bakri, 45, hopes that the local authorities and the State Health Department will carry out continuous monitoring to ensure the effectiveness of the act.
“It would be better if the local authorities also provide a special smoking zone with stricter supervision thus ensuring that smokers are more responsible in complying with the regulations,” he said.
Last Monday, the Ministry of Health (KKM) announced that Act 852, which involves several aspects, will be enforced immediately and in phases.
The enforcement includes provisions related to the sale of smoking products in the form of games and attracting the attention of children and teenagers in order to limit the availability of such products. – Named
