Domestic violence: East Baintree Road
At 7:20 p.m. Sept. 25, officers were dispatched to a home where it was reported by a woman walking her dog that a woman could be heard from a driveway screaming for help.
At the home, a man answered the door. He said he had an argument with his wife but, when asked, said that no violence had taken place.
As police spoke with the man, his wife drove up. The woman was at first hesitant to speak, but then said her husband had threatened her, stating he would kill her by pushing her down steps leading to their basement.
She also said that he had punched her several times in the back of the head and that, as a result, she had a bump on her head.
She pleaded with her husband to allow her to leave the home, but he refused to let her go before she finally got away.
As she tried to back her car out of the driveway, the man stood in the vehicle’s path, then tried opening a car door.
When told he was under arrest, the man, who smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech, screamed obscenities at officers. He was handcuffed and led to a police car, where he then spit at, but missed, an officer. He then had to be forced into the back of the police cruiser.
At the jail, the man, 64, continued to curse at officers. Police treated a bleeding cut on his forearm.
The man’s record shows multiple arrests for domestic violence in Illinois. He was again charged with domestic violence.
Theft from auto: Chagrin Boulevard
At 10:05 a.m. Sept. 24, an Avon man, 27, reported that someone rummaged the interior of his 2014 Honda Accord as it was parked overnight in the lot of The Vue apartments, 23220 Chagrin Blvd.
The man believes he locked the car’s doors, but found no signs of forced entry.
Stolen were the man’s wallet and watch. Someone then used his credit card to make an online Walmart purchase of $39.
Violation of protection order: Commerce Park Drive
At 7:55 p.m. Sept. 24, a man called 911 to report that he was with his sister at her workplace and that she had just received a disturbing visit from her ex-husband. The woman has a protection order against her former husband that stems from a prior domestic violence incident.
As an officer made his way to the woman’s workplace, he saw a car on Commerce Park Drive heading towards Chagrin Boulevard that matched the description of her ex-husband’s vehicle.
A traffic stop was conducted and the man admitted to having been at the workplace. He said he wanted to explain something to his ex-wife, but that he also told her he didn’t “give an (expletive) about (her).”
It was later learned that the man had called his ex-wife throughout the day approximately 150 times. He had also sent text messages to the woman’s brother.
Police arrested the man, 58, of Bedford, for violation of a protection order and driving with expired vehicle registration.
Domestic violence: Richmond Road
At 8:55 p.m. Sept. 28, a boy, 12, called police to state his mother was trying to get into his bedroom and that she had a knife. The boy said his mother was upset because she had received a bad report about him from his school.
At the home, police spoke with the boy’s mother. who smelled as if she had been drinking alcohol.
The woman told a completely different story, stating that her husband had been aggressive toward her before leaving their home. She said she wasn’t injured on this occasion, but showed officers photos on her phone from Sept. 6 showing her with a black eye as a result of being hit by her husband.
The boy’s older brother clarified for police that the mother was not upset with her 12-year-old son, and that she had a butter knife she was using to try and get into her son’s room because he had locked his bedroom door to keep her out.
The woman’s husband was not home while police were present, but officers were told that when he leaves, he often parks nearby and stays in his car.
Police searched nearby streets and located the man, asleep in his car parked on Wimbledon Road. Police woke the man, 46, who smelled of alcohol, and arrested him for domestic violence.
