Ozzy Osbourne to get star-studded tribute at Rock Hall induction

Ozzy Osbourne to get star-studded tribute at Rock Hall induction

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Soon to be two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Ozzy Osbourne will be celebrated by an all-star group of singers and players at the upcoming 2024 Rock & Roll Hal of Fame Induction Ceremony happening on Saturday, October 19, at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

The Rock Hall announced Thursday on Instagram and other social media that actor Jack Black will present Osbourne for induction as a solo artist, and that an all-star group of singers and musicians will perform in his honor, including his longtime guitarist and co-writer Zakk Wylde and former bassist Robert Trujillo, now of Metallica.

Other performers in in the Osbourne tribute band will be Billy Idol; Tool’s Maynard Keenan, and country superstar Jelly Roll, who recently told Rolling Stone that Osbourne’s “Mama I’m Coming Home,” is one of his favorite songs.

Providing the wall of guitars for a setlist likely to include iconic tunes such as “Crazy Train” and “No More Tears” will be Wylde, Idol’s former guitarist Steve Stevens, Wolfgang Van Halen, and producer-guitarist Andrew Watt, producer of Osbourne’s most recent solo albums “Ordinary Man,” and “Patient Number 9.” The latter album topped several Billboard rock charts upon its release in 2022.

Trujillo, who recorded and toured with Osbourne for seven years, will be joined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith in the rhythm section, which should keep the bottom end heavy enough to carry the army of guitarists. Longtime Osbourne band member Adam Wakeman will handle keyboards for the all-star band. He is the son of Rick Wakeman of prog rock kings Yes, who were inducted in 2017.

Osbourne, who has survived many recent health issues, hasn’t announced if he will perform, but has said he will be at the induction. The all-star band of acolytes and musical co-consipirators will certainly do him and his catalog justice.

Osbourne was previously inducted into the Rock Hall in 2006 as a member of Black Sabbath.

The 2024 Induction Ceremony will take place at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 19 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The event is sold out but verified RESALE tickets are still available at Seatgeek.com. The ceremony will also be broadcast live on Disney+ with a special re-airing on January 1 and will be available on Hulu starting January 2.

In addition to Osbourne, the 2024 performer inductees are Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy and A Tribe Called Quest. The Musical Influence inductees are Big Mama Thornton and British bluesmen Alexis Korner and John Mayall.

Jimmy Buffett, the MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield are Musical Excellence inductees and the Ahmet Ertegun Award goes to pioneering music industry executive Suzanne de Passe.

The Rock Hall previously announced that DMB, Blige, Cher, Foreigner, Frampton, Kool & the Gang and Warwick will be performing live at the Oct. 19 ceremony.

A star-studded list of other performers and presenters was also revealed, including Julie Roberts, Dua Lipa, Busta Rhymes, Dr. Dre, Demi Lovato, Chuck D, James Taylor, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Mac McAnally, Roger Daltrey, Sammy Hagar, Slash and The Roots.

Roberts will be on hand to induct The Dave Matthews Band. Roberts is a self-avowed DMB superfan and she appeared in the band’s video for the 2005 single, “Dreamgirl.”

The Rock Hall has been touting the presenters and performers on X and other its other social media accounts, announcing last week that Dua Lipa would be honoring Cher.

Also confirmed is that Busta Rhymes will be performing with A Tribe Called Quest. Mary J. Blige will have a gaggle of artists performing with her, including Dr. Dre, who produced her biggest hit, “Family Affair, which spent six weeks atop the Billboard 100 as well as “Not Today.” Also onstage with Blige will be Method Man, whose duet with Blige on the remix of his single, “I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need,” won a 1996 Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group Grammy.

The presenters and performers on hand to pay tribute to Foreigner will include Guns ‘N Rose’s guitarist Slash, Sammy Hagar, Demi Lovato and Kelly Clarkson.

Country star Keith Urban and the Who’s Roger Daltrey will be in Cleveland to honor Frampton. Chuck D at the inductions to pay tribute to Kool & the Gang. Performer/presenters for the late Jimmy Buffett include James Taylor, Kenny Chesney and Mac MacAnally.

The Roots will be the house band, performing to celebrate several of this year’s inductees. There is also speculation that Jelly Roll will perform his hit “I’m Not Okay” as part of an In Memorium segment.

Tickets for the ceremony are still available at seatgeek.com.
