WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Corrections said a resident of the Wichita Work Release Facility died Thursday.
KDOC said Joshua Degroot, 44, was found unresponsive at his workplace in Wichita. EMS was called, and Degroot’s coworkers performed lifesaving measures until they arrived, but they were unsuccessful.
The cause of death is pending the results of an independent autopsy.
The Wichita Police Department is investigating Degroot’s death with assistance from KDOC. The investigation is ongoing.
Degroot was serving a 44-month sentence for two convictions of aggravated battery in Leavenworth County, Kansas.
